Part-Time Cashier (who does much more)

The Kokua Market Grocery Cooperative was founded by the community in 1971 to pioneer a healthy food model for Hawaii. Now 50 years old, the Market features local organic fruits and vegetables, humanely harvested fish, meat and dairy products, as well as products and crafts from over 100 Hawaii vendors.

Kokua Market also manages a health and beauty aisle that features natural and locally made products, and a prepared food deli that serves hot and cold vegan and non-vegan dishes. Ingredients include (organic) grass-fed beef and fresh venison from Molokai, cage-free chickens , humanely raised pork and lamb, and non-GMO fruits and vegetables from across the state.

A Kokua Market Cashier is the first person an owner/customer meets. The primary responsibilities of a Cashier is to present a positive professional image of the store. Cashiers greet owners and customers, and assist them at the cash register. This includes handling their canned goods, bulk items, fresh produce, frozen and fresh meats at check out, as well as conducting financial transactions using cash, debt and credit cards.

Kokua cashiers are familiar with healthy eating and living products sold in the market, and are able to assist owners and customers with their shopping needs. Cashiers also stock grocery shelves, price products, and package bulk items.

Cashiers also assist other departments as needed. In produce this may include hourly showers of produce, lifting, packaging and placement of merchandise. In the hot food deli, cashiers may be needed to dish out food and to assist the dishwasher at the end of the night.

Cashier basic requirements:

• Successful Kokua Market candidates are mature individuals who can work as a team member, and work solo.
• Candidates must be able to follow directions and accept constructive guidance
• Candidates have can-do attitudes and are not afraid to lean new things.
• Candidates possess critical thinking skills
• Candidates take initiative when things need to be done.
• Candidates genuinely enjoy people and providing quality customer service.
• Candidates are comfortable with their basic math abilities, which are required to conduct financial transactions and to use a calculator
• Candidates are able to lift and carry 25 lbs as needed
• Candidates are able to pass a criminal history/background check

Part-Time Dishwasher

There is a hot food deli that serves vegan and non-vegan food. Ingredients include (organic) grass-fed beef, cage-free chickens, humanely raised pork and lamb, and non-gmo fruits and vegetables.

Dishwasher basic requirements:

• Successful Kokua Market Dishwashers works from 4 - 7:30 pm when they clean up dishes after the chefs leave. This includes cooking, baking and serving dishes, utensils, making ice, putting out garbage, breaking down boxes, and sterilizing the floor. The dishwasher primarily works alone, but staff will assist as needed.

The Dishwasher also may be asked to dish out food to customers if the front-end staff is busy.
